History of the Company

The Ethos

In spring 1993, Julian Watts one of the founding partners introduced a new business concept to one or two business people and friends including Bill Edwards. The concept was to purchase the most cost effective waste handling systems available to service the commercial worlds fast growing need to preserve the environment whilst significantly reducing operating costs now and in the rapidly changing future. read more »

Both Julian and Bill had many years business experience. After 6 months of extensive product research and market testing, including several pilot projects with local NHS Trusts, the product supply line, the marketing strategy, the concept and the partnership were firmly proven and established.

Environmental Waste Controls ltd (EWC) have reached by August 1999 over £3 Million turnover, 33% Gross Profit, and 12% Net Profit and over 50 employees. We have experienced growth of circa 50% per annum

The Systems

EWC began purchasing waste handling systems direct from Husmann Gmbh of Germany. Germany recycles 40% of it's waste. Due to the dearth of Landfill sites, long distances between sites and the environmentally inflated cost of transportation. read more »

German waste handling systems are the most technologically advanced and efficient in Europe. Husmann Gmbh are by far the largest manufacturer of waste handling machinery in Europe. They have thousands of waste handling systems throughout the world from single compactors, balers and shredders to huge municipal transfer stations using canal systems in addition to rail and road. There is no waste problem to which they have not already implemented a solution.

Using Husmann?s experience and systems, EWC have in turn implemented hundreds of waste handling systems with some of the top 100 companies in the U.K. Every single system has reduced that companies waste bill over and above the cost of the equipment and significantly improved the environmental impact of the waste, it?s treatment and disposal.

The Facilities Management Option

In 1996, following three years of reducing the revenue taken by waste contractors in the U.K. by increasing our share of the waste machinery market, EWC began guaranteeing the performance of Husmann waste machinery. Three years of surveying waste producers annual costs, tonnage's and types of waste had given EWC the experience to be able to guarantee a significantly reduced fixed price for waste segregation, storage, transport and disposal for recycling recovery or landfill. read more »

A network of contacts, in particular with the service orientated and ambitious Waste Service organisations, have enabled EWC to offer an all encompassing waste management system including segregation recycling and collection. Due to the partnership's financial growth and cash positive position this service includes EWC financing the Husmann machinery necessary to unlock waste producers cost savings whilst providing environmental improvement to German waste handling standards.
