New Board Appointments (12/12/07)
EWC is a multiple award winning recycling and waste management company. The company offers bespoke and unique integrated waste management programmes; from sorting and segregating at source to avoid landfill and maximise recycling , free provision of waste handling equipment through to materials transportation via a national fleet of environmentally friendly hook lift vehicles for recycling and waste haulage to meet the needs of every business whilst lowering the per tonne carbon footprint of haulage.
Since 2003, EWC has also developed a market leading reputation as a provider of waste solutions to commercial and local authority customers throughout the United Kingdom. The company provides a service that is differentiated by sorting and segregating at source, therefore, massively increasing recycling percentages to 70% and minimising landfill use, helping councils meet LATS targets. The use of compactors and balers minimises the number of vehicle visits to a site, therefore, reducing the miles per tonne ratio, by maximising the tonnes of waste material moved in each journey, increases the site storage capacity for bank holidays, reduces the times a unit needs emptying which reduces costs for all parties, and therefore reduces the customers' carbon footprint associated with the disposal of waste.
The principal Waste Management Solutions can be defined as:
Commercial Recycling and Waste Facilities Management contracts ("FM") - including sortation and segregation at source to minimise landfill use, provision of waste compactors and balers to reduce the per ton carbon footprint , and the subsequent transport of all materials using EWC’s national fleet of environmentally friendly hook lifts vehicles.
Household Waste Recycling Centre ("HWRC") contracts - provision of a fully outsourced solution to recycle upto 70% of household waste delivered, equip and operate HWRC centres to enhance customer experience, usage and recycling, whilst minimising transport costs, increasing storage capacity for bank holidays and reducing the carbon footprint of each ton...
EWC differentiates itself from competitors through; minimising use of landfill; minimising transport (miles per tonne) and associated costs to customers; maximising recycling and; EWC does not operate or own landfill sites and never will.
EWC can do this because we do not operate or own landfill sites and never will.

EWC SUCCESSFULLY RANKED 156 IN EUROPE 500 LISTING 2007 (12/12/07)
Europe’s 500 listing recognises those companies in Europe who have sustained an outstanding business performance over the previous 3 years.
The Europe 500 Champions 2007 was individually recognised at an awards ceremony held on Saturday 24th November 2007 in Prague, Czech Republic.
EWC have now been listed in the Europe’s 500 listing for the 5th year running. This year we have successfully reached position 156 meaning we are in the top third of all those who entered. This also demonstrates our continual growth as a business.
Bill Edwards (Chairman) commented on his company’s success:-
“Following such a difficult year in 2006 it is nice to be recognised as one of the fastest growing companies in Europe. Doubling the business put strain on all of our resources. It put strain on staff, customers and suppliers. As a team we met the challenge of being wanted across twice as many counties. Somebody famous once said “It can be difficult to remember the objective of the exercise is to drain the swamp when you’re up to your ass in alligators”. Our swamp was UK Landfills and we did not forget the objective of our exercise by achieving record recycling percentages, but it seems for the fifth year running we are attracting attention for our exceptional achievements in Europe!”
Tony Watson of Blackburn with Darwen Council, one of EWC’s HWRC customers said of the success:-
“Can I pass along our congratulations on your achievement and I am sure it gives yourselves great pride and satisfaction, given the challenging times you've had and are coming through. It's a credit to your determination and drive as a company.”
Alan Danks of Keiper UK Ltd, one of EWC’s Facilities Management customers commented:-
“Well done to you and your company, it`s good to know we are attached to a company with high standards.”
ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE CONTROLS LTD short listed in the North West regional finalists section
The National Business Awards is the country’s leading programme in recognising innovation, success and excellence in business achievement in the UK. The awards receive coverage from over 500 publications and Sky television. They have been referred to by the Chancellor of Exchequer as the ‘business Oscars’.
EWC is proud to announce that we have been short listed in the North West regional finalists section and are waiting to hear on 30th August if we have reached the national final. 2007 will host the 6th annual National Business Awards and in its 3rd year (2004) EWC won the National Small to Medium sized Business of the Year award.
Since this success in 2004 the business has grown significantly and this has been achieved by marketing to a much wider audience. Our commercial facilities management business has doubled in 3 years and we are now the single largest HWRC operator in the shire counties in England and Wales. The company had just 110 employees in 2004, which has grown to over 500 across the UK from April 1st 2007.
ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE CONTROLS LTD NOW LISTED IN EURO 500 5 YEARS IN SUCCESSION
Europe’s 500 Awards was established in 1996.The Award is offered on an annual basis and is a tribute to the fastest growing, job creating companies in Europe. The Award is presented at a ceremony which takes place in November, at a different European Capital each year. Following this, the winners are also recognised in the Market500.EU publication.
Environmental Waste Controls ltd ranked at the position 174 in 2006, meaning they have now been listed in Europe’s top 500, five years in succession.
On receiving the news, Bill Edwards (Executive Chairman) said :
"What is most incredible about this consistent achievement is that it gets harder in each successive year because it is a percentage increase, so the more people you employ the more people you need to recruit to keep the percentage increase the following year. In 2006 we made 174th, our highest placing yet, and I estimate we will be in the top 100 next year. Remember, this is a European wide listing and there are over 1 million companies in the UK alone! Also, take into consideration that this is reflects our business activities in 2005. In 2006 we took on Leicester,
Gloucester, Merthyr Tydfil, Lincoln
and won Norfolk, which starts in March this year."
This is an accomplishment EWC are extremely proud to hold. It demonstrates the ability of sustainable growth and reinforces our ambition in becoming one the most successful waste Management and recycling companies in the UK and Ireland.
